Metabolic Weight Loss, Insulin Resistance & GLP-1 Nutrition Support
Work with a Registered Dietitian in South Africa for sustainable weight loss, insulin resistance, bariatric surgery, or GLP-1 (Ozempic, Mounjaro, Wegovy) muscle-preserving nutrition.
- Sustainable weight management goes beyond crash dieting — a Registered Dietitian addresses insulin resistance, metabolic adaptation, protein targets, and realistic South African family meals.
- For patients using GLP-1 medications (such as Ozempic, Mounjaro, Wegovy, or Saxenda), clinical nutrition support helps prevent muscle loss (sarcopenia), manage gastrointestinal side effects, and build habits to prevent weight regain.
- Available via online video consultation nationwide or in-person, with Medical Aid and private options.
General educational information only — not medical advice. All clinical consultations are conducted by independent HPCSA-registered dietitians.
What is the difference between a Registered Dietitian and a nutritionist?
In South Africa, a Registered Dietitian (RD) holds a 4-year clinical degree, is registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA), and has a Board of Healthcare Funders (BHF) practice number to claim from Medical Aid. "Nutritionist" is often used informally, whereas Registered Dietitians are regulated clinical professionals.
Does Medical Aid cover a Registered Dietitian?
Most South African Medical Aids (Discovery Health, Bonitas, Momentum, GEMS, Medihelp, Bestmed, Fedhealth) cover Registered Dietitians from your Medical Savings Account, day-to-day benefits, or Prescribed Minimum Benefits (PMBs) for qualifying chronic and oncology conditions. Many dietitians also offer Vitality Nutrition Assessments.
Can I do my consultation online (including from the USA, UK, Europe, Australia or UAE)?
Yes. Specialist HPCSA-registered dietitians consult online via Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams, or WhatsApp Video across South Africa as well as with South African expats and international private clients in the USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, Europe, Australia, New Zealand, and the UAE.
Do I need blood test results before I book?
No. If you already have recent blood tests or a doctor's referral letter, bring them along—otherwise the dietitian can advise which tests are worth requesting during your first session.
Does it cost anything to use NutriMatch SA?
